Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing celebrated International Women’s Day by hosting their annual Strong Women Brew Strong Beer event. This year, the day was bigger than ever before featuring more activities than just brewing. It was a day to celebrate Strong Women! SCMB brewer, Taylor Settani, was recognized by brewing up a batch of beer. Meanwhile, owner Emily Thomas and other women from the community hosted demonstrations throughout the brewery and beer garden including: cooking, jam-making, arts, science, engineering, politics and more. The brewery was set up as a place for women to come and participate in activities, to fundraise and to celebrate the fundamental strengths of women and to enjoy being a strong woman amongst other strong women.
As for the fundraising, SCMB was raising money for the following groups: Salud Para La Gente, Walnut Ave. Women’s Center, Santa Cruz Derby Girls, Women In Science & Engineering and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. SCMB donated $1 of every beer purchased and customers got to choose which group they would like to donate their $1 by placing a ticket received upon purchase of a pint into a designated jar.
