Santa Cruz Derby Girls, May 13th Civic Bout, Ranked #15 in World

The  most recent release of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) rankings have placed the Santa Cruz Derby Girls No. 15 in the world out of 323 teams after their latest tournament sweep. Santa Cruz’s All-Stars, the Boardwalk Bombshells faced American teams from Maryland, Michigan, and Arizona, and a Finnish team from Helsinki, Finland on April 7-9. Santa Cruz dominated each bout, with the closest margin of victory at 68 points. The rise in rankings to No. 15 positions Santa Cruz well for international playoff seeding in September, as long as the All-Stars can sustain the ranking until June 30th.

The Bombshells will be battling it out versus Beach City Roller Derby’s Riptide Rollers, in a surf city battle at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium on May 13th at 6:30pm. Beach City Roller Derby league founder and skater, Pigeon (aka Shayna Meikle Anderson) began her derby career in Santa Cruz and is making her way back to her old skating grounds to challenge the team that gave Pigeon her start. All-star fan favorites Weezy, Shamrock N. Roller, and Queen Litigious previously played with Pigeon and we anticipate a showcase of devastating hits and feats of agility on eight wheels to Pigeon and her team. There are only two more chances this season to see hard-hitting, fast-rolling, full contact roller derby at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. Don’t miss out on this surf city battle and a chance to see what roller derby looks like at No. 15—buy your tickets at to cheer on your Santa Cruz Derby Girls on May 13th.
