There is something for everyone at Santa Cruz Earth Day 2017. On Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the annual environmental event welcomes all ages to celebrate in San Lorenzo Park. There will be family-fun activities, over 100 booths with eco-friendly displays and green retailers, live music, an electric vehicle showcase, fashion, food and even a beer garden.
Kids will enjoy arts and crafts, tumbling, gymnastics and more. They’ll love the hands-on activities at the Marine Mammal Center. At the Butterfly Booth they can learn how to make a seeding planter out of recyclables.
And they will be rewarded with Pacific Cookie Company or Penny Ice Creamery coupon for getting their Enviro Passport stamped at educational booths.
Parents as well as children will enjoy Kerith Koontz’s face painting with lively and whimsical designs.
Adults may attend composting workshops and join their kids climbing the rock wall or making an environmental pledge.
Day-long entertainment includes local favorites SambaDá and Mothersong with Joya Winwood.
Also on stage, the Recycled Teen Fashion Show features student designed and modeled outfits made from recycled materials as eclectic as packing peanuts, plastic fencing and Capri Sun drink pouches.
Remember to bring reusable shopping bags and refillable water bottles as Earth Day is a Zero Waste event. Free drinking water will be provided by Pure Water of Santa Cruz.
And if you arrive on bicycle, Bike Santa Cruz County offers free valet parking.
Sponsored and organized by the City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz, Ecology Action and the UC Santa Cruz Sustainability Office, Earth Day Santa Cruz 2017 is an exciting community event you won’t want to miss!
