The 25th annual Aloha Outrigger Races and Polynesian Festival was held Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Santa Cruz Wharf, the festive event was hosted by City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation.
Outrigger races were held along the length of the wharf from 8 a.m. to around 11 a.m. After the races, attendees enjoyed the island-style street vendors including jewelry, clothing, and art. Island favorites like fresh coconuts, shave ice and tropical drinks were also on hand at the festival.
A large crowd gathered at the end of the wharf where Polynesian style dancers and singers performed until 5 p.m. Women of all ages performed traditional song and dance in vibrant colored outfits, along with beautiful flowers in their hair. It was a great day to celebrate the aloha spirit on a foggy day here in Santa Cruz.
