There is something really special about visiting the Hawaiian Islands in the winter. The obvious is escaping the cold waters of Santa Cruz, and diving head first into the tropical 79 degree bright blue waters. The not so obvious, is it being Humpback season around Maui. I’m not just talking a few spouts here and there, I’m talking breaching and tails everywhere you look. It was actually hard not to see a whale while looking out onto the horizon.
Maui is an interesting island. I stayed in the town of Kula, which actually has a similar climate as Santa Cruz. They grow a lot of the same plants and trees, and at night the temperature drops into the 50’s. The thing that’s different is that you can drive 20 minutes to quickly escape the cold.
Here are some photos from the my wonderful 2 week stay. Hope you enjoy!
