“We want to help, so we’re doing it ourselves.”
The lineup is here and preparation is underway, as the 6th annual Do It Ourselves Fest returns to Boulder Creek, CA during April 27-29th, 2018. DIO Fest offers 3 days of live music, local art, delicious food and drinks, with creekside camping among the redwood mountaintop. The past four years have been met with sold out crowds who come each year to not only have fun, but to also give back to charitable causes.
DIO’s stoked to announce their partnership with Do It For The Love at this years festival. DIFTL was founded and is currently run by Michael Franti of Spearhead, along with his wife Sara. Do It For The Love is a non-profit, wish-granting organization that brings people living with life-threatening illnesses, children with severe challenges, and wounded veterans to live concerts. Both organizations actively work to leverage the healing power of music and give back through art and musical performance to create positive experiences.
DIO Fest operates to support music enrichment programing for special needs campers with developmental disabilities at event site, Camp Krem. Through charitable donations and proceeds from the event, DIO has donated upwards of $20k to the music program at Camp Krem. Our 2017 festival was in partnership with Possessed by Paul James and his video production, highlighting the healing properties of musical therapy for individuals with autism, learning disabilities, and debilitating diseases.
Do It Ourselves Presents founder, Stevee Stubblefield says, “The true takaway from this whole event is that this ethos of community empowerment, allowing people to have a shared experience for a greater cause, is a model that can be applied all over the world.” Camp Krem chairman Alex Krem says, “Music binds us all. You sit next to a stranger and listen to a good song, and you stand up at the end good friends.”
DIO Fest 2018 features headliners Tommy Guerrero, Futurebirds, and Jungle Fire, with support from The Autumn Defense, The Deer, William Tyler, and Sugar Candy Mountain. Santa Cruz locals such as Kendra McKinley, Getaway Dogs, Dan Too, and Joe Kaplow are also joining in the festivities. Local arts and crafts vendors Juice Box, Coco Crispa, Bri Bol, and Lucas Elmer will be vending their work on site as well.
DIO hopes to kindle the sparks of creativity and change that happen when people get together to build something that is greater than the sum of its parts, rippling the ‘do-it ourselves’ approach out towards larger communities. Whether a volunteer, attendee, artist, vendor, or anyone in between, ‘you’ are a part of the ‘we’ that is DIO Fest.
Do-It-Ourselves Presents is a mission-driven music festival and media production company. DIO’s mission is to create intimate experiences with music, art, and community that serve a greater good.
