Mavericks, Cortes Bank, and Pleasure Point. What do these spots have in common? Epic shredding by big wave rider Shawn Dollar. On April 29th, Shawn will be back for the 3rd year in a row to surf as an event pro in the SurfAid Cup Santa Cruz.
“It’s an honor to be a part of SurfAid to help raise money and awareness for people less fortunate than us.”
Shawn’s one of the few SurfAid Cup pro’s whose name has graced the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records. In 2011, he paddled into the biggest wave ever at Mavericks. At 55-feet, it earned him the XXL “Biggest Paddle” wave. In 2012, he trumped his own record by paddling into a 62-foot wave at the Cortes Bank, earning him the XXL award for not only “Biggest Paddle” wave, but simply “Biggest Wave,” the first time a paddle in surfer had bested the world’s best tow-in crews. He finished the Mavericks Invitational that year in sixth place, a huge honor.
