Santa Cruz takes TWO spots in finals of International Bartending Competition

Santa Cruz, California, October 15, 2018 – The first ever Sustainable Cocktail Competition hosted by Sombra Mezcal is underway, and the top 12 finalists were announced. The list of bars represented includes some of the world’s top award winning bars, like Death & Co. and World’s Best Bar, Dead Rabbit, in New York City.

TWO spots were handed off to bartenders from Santa Cruz, California, in this coveted race to the grand prize, which includes an expense paid trip to Oaxaca to visit the distillery and learn the art of mezcal distillation. Blaze Montana and Kate Gerwin, both of Front & Cooper in Santa Cruz, have earned spots in the final battle. Sombra Mezcal collaborated with world famous TRASH TIKI, the London based group whose goal is to minimize the footprint of the bar industry as a whole. The punk rock style duo has taken the global industry by storm as a new focus on the sustainability aspect of bartending takes center stage.
